Workspace Whiz is a powerful add-in for Visual Studio .NET 2002/2003/2005/2008 and Visual C++ 6 designed to improve developer productivity by making available such features as:

  • Incremental searching of files throughout the workspace, global include/source directories, or user specified directories.
  • Incremental tag searches either by identifier name or a parent class or namespace.
  • Switching between the declaration and definition of functions.
  • Tag completion at the press of a key while typing.
  • Powerful code templates.
  • And a whole lot more...

As of version 4.0, Workspace Whiz is free software for non-commercial uses.  Those using Workspace Whiz to develop software for profit (including commercial and shareware developers) need to purchase a license to use Workspace Whiz.

For the first time in 10 years, I'm doing two things I have avoided like the plague.  First, I'm charging for Workspace Whiz 4.0.  This primarily affects users moving to Visual Studio 2005 and 2008, although there are a number of new features already in Workspace Whiz 4.0 and also slated to go in.

Second, I'm raising the price of Workspace Whiz to $25.  I can't really live without Workspace Whiz as I do development, and I'd drop $25 on it in a heartbeat.  Even at the increased price, it is still a great deal.  Because the price is still so low, there are not volume discounts.

April 11, 2009 - Workspace Whiz 4.2 Beta Build 1203 for Visual Studio 2002/2003/2005/2008 and Visual C++ 6

This version has the following updates:

  • For the "Header Flip" command, handle multiple periods in the filename, such as foo.bar.cpp.
  • Fix for a crash bug when loading certain tag files without the line number.
  • F1 help text update for the Workspace File Open dialog.
  • Handle the Foo.Bar.Baz.cpp, Foo.Bar.Baz.h, Foo.Bar.Bog.cpp, and Foo.Bar.Bog.h case with the Header Flip.
  • Guard against an assert in History::PreAdd() when opening the first document in a session.
  • Search for ItemGroup XML nodes anywhere in the XML data. This lets, for instance, MSBuild conditionals work.
  • When the Include attribute contains a wildcard, grab the proper files from disk.
  • The evaluation dialog pops up for an unregistered version.  If you are a user fitting the description of using Workspace Whiz for non-commercial uses (according to the Workspace Whiz license), you may enter the following code to remove the evaluation dialog:
    • Registration Name: (Non-commercial usage license)
    • Registration Code: K9MYC-KRF4K-6RDCV-T1T49-1EJPC
